if you follow me on twitter on instragram, you’ll have seen quite a few slightly cryptic posts using the hashtags #topsecret #newproject #comingsoon …. and now, i’m finally able to reveal what i’m up to!!

in january 2017, Old Maiden Aunt Yarns will be TEN YEARS OLD!!! many of you may know this already, but when i started dyeing yarn, i never really intended to start a business, let alone one that would still be going strong ten years later. i’m so lucky to have fallen into something that i love so much, and to have found such an amazing community of customers and friends among you all. so i’m celebrating this by making a book!!!!

this has been a huge undertaking (and some of it is still ongoing!) – i’ve never done anything even remotely like this before, and it’s been a very steep and bumpy learning curve! but i’m massively proud of how it’s coming together, and i really hope you like it.

coming home cover

here’s your first glimpse at the book cover, and a sneak peek at one of the patterns!!! the title “coming home” is in reference to this amazing community of knitters & crafters which has become my new home, as well as in reference to my home in Scotland – the patterns and photographs are a bit of a love letter to Scotland, and i hope it will give some insight into why i love this place so much.

i’m planning a gradual reveal of the details of the book over the next couple of months, and will be introducing a different contributor each week and telling you about their work in the book. this will lead up to a limited number of pre-orders in february – some of which will be postal-only, and some of which will be able to be collected at Edinburgh Yarn Fest – with the official “launch” of the book at EYF in march.

i’m really excited about who’s involved in this with me – there are some stunning patterns as well as a couple of surprises and i’m looking forward to letting you know about them over the next wee while!!
